Reducing water use helps the environment and your bottom line. Read how to upgrade, monitor, and maintain water systems.
Maintain Car Wash Systems
Steve Tinsley is facility manager at McCurley Integrity Dealerships. His weekly facility inspections include a check on the auto group’s three Broadway car wash systems. He assesses soap and rinse levels, drains, and the water reclamation system. In addition to the weekly inspections, routine car wash maintenance includes “monthly lubrication of its moving parts, hydraulic oil filter changes every couple of years, and it is now due, after four years, for some replacement curtains and mitters,” said Tinsley.
Inspect Irrigation Equipment
If your landscaping requires irrigation, spring is the time to inspect your system for leaks and repair broken equipment. Southern Oregon Subaru installed low-flow, high-efficiency sprinklers and switched to watering at night when it’s cooler. These changes reduced water use, lowered costs, and virtually eliminated runoff reaching the local watershed.
Catch the Rain
Do you have a system to catch April showers? By capturing rainwater from the roof into a cistern, pond, or holding tank, retailers can use the water for landscape irrigation, reducing water costs and the impact on local municipal storm water systems.
