Who knew going green could be so much fun? Dee Boyett and the team at Sam Pack’s Five Star Subaru of Grapevine are finding that eco-friendliness is great for the city, great for the Earth, and great for camaraderie.
The retailer has joined two new beautification projects with the City of Grapevine, TX. Dee Boyett, Five Star’s public relations/delivery specialist, recently shared details, and her excitement for the projects is infectious.

Adopt-An-Area
Through Grapevine Parks and Rec’s Adopt-An-Area program, Five Star Subaru has taken on a one-mile stretch of roadway running along the dealership’s back entrance. It is a two-year agreement that includes six annual litter cleanups.
For each cleanup, Boyett plans to recruit a 10-person team of employees from various departments. The team will split into two groups with five associates cleaning up each side of the road. Community benefits are the primary goal, but Boyett says helping the environment is also good for morale. Five Star employees participated in a litter clean-up event last year, and Boyett reports they’re still telling stories from the experience. Her hope is that the Adopt-An-Area program adds to teambuilding and camaraderie among associates.
The first cleanup is complete, and the results are impressive. The crew, sporting yellow safety vests and armed with trash grabbers, collected 330 gallons of trash.

Keep Grapevine Beautiful (KGVB) Community Grant Program
As Boyett finalized Five Star’s commitment to the Adopt-An-Area program, she learned about another local beautification opportunity—KGVB Community Grants. Administered by Keep Grapevine Beautiful, the grants are awarded to schools, churches, and other civic organizations for beautification, litter prevention, and waste reduction projects.
Boyett and Five Star Subaru jumped in and committed to fund the 2019 community grants. The grant application window closes this month. We look forward to updates and will post details as they are available. Last year’s winners organized projects for school gardens, trail improvements, and school plastic reduction efforts.
