Five Star Subaru of Grapevine Spurs Eco-Friendly Community Projects

It’s what’s on the inside that counts. We’ve all heard that adage, and while it applies to people, it’s what Five Star Subaru in Grapevine, TX, is doing on the outside that’s inspiring.

With high-speed overhead doors, programmable thermostats, LED lighting, and a comprehensive recycling program, the retailer is definitely green on the inside. Outside, Five Star is encouraging other organizations to join in eco-friendly work.

“It’s great to see retailers extend green efforts outside their facilities and into local communities,” said Chuck Golden, Green Dealer Support CEO. “It’s even more exciting to see dealers engaging customers and additional stakeholders in this work.”

Community Grant Program

We reported last year on Five Star’s plans to fund a community grant program. The grants support other organizations’ efforts in beautification, litter prevention, and waste reduction.

Both grants were awarded to local schools. One used the funds to install two water stations, encouraging students to use refillable water bottles rather than single-use plastic. The second grant will help an elementary school beautify its front entrance.

TerraCycle Partnership Expands

Before the community grants were awarded, each grant applicant visited Five Star Subaru to present proposals to Five Star’s community relations manager, Dee Boyett, along with representatives from the City of Grapevine. During the visit, Boyett used the opportunity to introduce city officials to Subaru’s recycling partnership with TerraCycle.

After the introduction to TerraCycle, the City of Grapevine invited Boyett, along with SOA and TerraCycle representatives, to share about the recycling partnership with stakeholders from its sister cities: Dallas, Fort Worth, and Irving, TX. As a result, each city is joining the effort to collect hard-to-recycle items and turn them into benches, picnic tables, and other outdoor furniture.

“One small act of kindness to help our community turned out to help many others in a cause that puts waste to good use in our community,” said Boyett.

“Five Star Subaru is one of our most dedicated Eco-Friendly Retailers. Dee and the Green Team do an excellent job!” said Megan Fleck, Subaru of America Eco-Friendly Program Lead. “Five Star is always looking for ways to further its environmental commitment, and that was cemented in a recent exterior signage upgrade from fluorescent signage to more energy-efficient LED signage.”
