A cool drink of water. A hot cup of coffee. Retailers offer both to customers and employees on a daily basis. If you’re still serving drinks in Styrofoam cups, now is the time to switch. Updated standards for 2019 require Eco-Friendly Retailers to eliminate Styrofoam containers. Many retailers have already made the switch. Get ideas and see where to shop below.

Single use containers
Due to ease of use, single use beverage containers are often used in customer lounges. There are a variety of options for Styrofoam-free cups. Darrell Waltrip Subaru, Goldstein Subaru, and others use paper cups. Some paper cups are made from sustainably sourced or partially recycled materials. A few are even lined with plant-based material and can be recycled after use. Sellers Subaru selected cold drink cups that look like plastic but are made from corn and are compostable in commercial facilities.
Basic paper cups are widely available. Shop Eco Products, World Centric or Webstaurant Store for compostable paper cups and plant-based clear cold cups.

Reusable containers

Ceramic cups and mugs are an option for customer lounges. The Eco-Friendly Subaru Gear Catalog offers a hand washable mug made from 100% corn bioplastic. Ceramic mugs with the Subaru brand are available here.
Gerald Subaru North Aurora cuts down on waste from single use containers by providing employees with reusable canteens. Other retailers encourage customers to bring refillable containers, and some stock Subaru refillable bottles for customers to purchase. The black Subaru canteen pictured below is available here.

Water coolers and bottle refill stations
Dahl Subaru and Tom Woods Subaru are among several retailers that have installed water bottle refill stations. The machine at Dahl has a counter that shows the number of bottles saved—they average about 400 per month. Long Subaru and Sellers Subaru opted for water coolers that dispense filtered water. Learn more and see options at Elkay, Oasis, Wellsys, and Kinetico.
